5 Powerful Positive Affirmations.

Traditionally a New Age practise, positive affirmations are a way of bringing about positive change [Positive thinking does it work?] and action to your life. Whilst detractors from the psychology field will say that pro-activity is what causes your life to change, not false ‘chants’ or ‘spells’, the idea isn’t necessarily about spiritual connection and fulfilment, but about asserting control and motivating you to embrace the good of life and let go of the bad.

Affirmations can remind us to stop and think about our actions and what we aim to achieve with them. It is a method in strengthening our beliefs and steadying our thoughts when approaching daily life. Here are 5 powerful positive affirmations from clinical psychologist Dr. Carmen Harra than can help you stay focused on living a positive life.

1) “Everything that is happening now is happening for my ultimate good.”

Life is full of ups and downs – some we can solve, some we cannot. There will be good and bad parts in your life happening simultaneously and at different levels of intensity. Affirm your commitment to embracing what is happening now and remain hopeful that ultimately progress and happiness will come from it. Worrying or bemoaning your situation will not help. Be inspired to change what you can, not everything, because you know what is worth your energy and what isn’t.

2) “My fears of tomorrow are simply melting away.”

Tomorrow happens to us as frequently as yesterday and today. You cannot stop the passage of time, but you can relax about it. The pressures of time are not rigid, but are self-imposed. The idea of your fear of the unknown, of the next step, melting away is a good image. It’s an image of inevitability but it is soft and gradual, which is how the majority of changes happen. Change isn’t always sudden and cruel, so accept that changes will happen and you will be ready for most of them. You change without thinking so often.

3) “Happiness is a choice. I base my happiness on my own accomplishments and the blessings I’ve been given.”

Happiness isn’t something you can physically accomplish and it does not reside in certain achievements or activities. Happiness is within you and it is up to you to allow yourself to be happy. We are often misguided by economic success and popularity that we forget the one thing we need to be fulfilled, people who love us. You can be rich or poor, but having your family and friends is what will always matter most. Choose to be happy with what you have got and don’t think you will find happiness in what is yet to come. You can be superior to bad behaviours [5 Behaviours People Don't Respect] and live to be as good a person as you can. You will often get kindness in return.

5) “I am the architect of my life; I build its foundation and choose its contents.”

This is possibly the most important affirmation of all. You are in control of your life and no-one can make it better for you. You choose the people in it, the passions you pursue, the career you build and the actions you take. Your impact on the world can reach as widely as you want it if you are fully aware of every move you make. There is a lot of power in you to realise.
