We can’t always guarantee in our life that we will know exactly what we are doing and why we are doing it at every single stage. There will always be times that we feel slightly lost and this is nothing to be feared as long as we are able to understand why that might be.

The sooner you understand why you feel lost, the quicker you are able to put yourself back onto the pathway you wish.

Here are 7 reasons people feel lost in life.

1. Work

Work can become a common cause of making us feel lost in life as it takes time to discover whether something is truly fulfilling our passion, and if it takes us a while to understand what we are passionate over then this only extends this time further. It might be that only years later you realise your job is making you feel lost and when this happens it is important to understand that it is never too late to do something to change it.

2. Relationships

If a relationship is not fulfilling us in all the ways it should be, it is natural to feel a little lost and alone in life [15 things to remember when you are feeling alone].

Relationships should be a functioning partnership and if it turns into two single units then you no longer feel the stability of having the other person there. This can be easily rectified by making the effort to forge those connections again by simply communicating how you feel. 3. Loss

If there is one thing that is guaranteed to cause a falter in our path in life, it is the loss of someone close to us. Losing someone who played a large part in our life, especially who has always been a sign of stability can disrupt our balance and make it seem difficult to make choices and cope. There is no quick fix for healing a loss in our life except time and learning the adjustments that need to be made in order for you to cope. Feeling lost at this time is completely natural and denying it is there only contributes to that feeling.

4. Routine

We live a life of routines and repetition can sometimes make us lose our appreciation for it being there, resulting in us feeling lost. It is not that anything has changed, it is just that we don’t look on it with the same appreciation. When this happens you need to make changes to your routine in order to make sure that you constantly feel grateful for the things you have in your life.

5. Failure

If we have worked ourselves up towards a goal and find that we don’t achieve it, this can cause us to be unsure of which direction to take next. It is at this point that some may resign themselves to being a failure and retreat to a path of safety without progression due to fear of failing again. However, failure can be seen as a point in which you can take yourself on a new path and doesn’t have to be something to deter you.

6. Fear

Just as failure causes us to feel lost, fear in general can also make us feel this way as we are unable to move forward in our life for fear of making ourselves vulnerable. This leaves us in a state of limbo and indecision as we don’t know what direction to take in our life overcoming the fear, whether it leads to success or failure, still means choosing a path and even if it might not end the way you would like you have made a choice about the direction you want to take your life in.

7. Lack of goals

Some people might believe that what they want to do in life will just come to them, and whilst it is nice to have the freedom that your path could take you anywhere, leaving it too long can cause us to lose sense of what we might enjoy and so we become lost or fall into something that is not right for us. Setting goals can always keep us looking forward and having an idea of where we are heading in the future.

As soon as you have identified the cause of your feelings, you can make the appropriate changes to make improvements and get back on track! Feeling lost doesn’t have to be daunting or scary and can actually give us an opportunity to have a fresh start on a new path that we might have never considered before.
