How are you feeling?

3 tips for an empowered life

empowered-life

There is only one person truly responsible for an empowered life and that’s you. Hurrah! Yes, really, Hurrah! Because if you’re responsible for it, you can do something about it, and it’s not as difficult as you may think. Here are some tools to help.

Give yourself time

When thinking about your future, the best gift you can give yourself is the time to reflect. Find a few hours with no distractions and write down your vision for your future. Visualize a time in the future that is the BEST 6 months of your life, visualize things such as; what job you will be doing, what the working environment will look like, what you will be recognized for, how you will be feeling about the job you do, what house you will be living in, car you will be driving, relationships you will be enjoying. Write it all down and tell someone about it. Once you visualize the things you want in your life your brain will actively seek out things to make it a reality. You’ll be surprised how many opportunities will begin to surface once you have clarity about the life you want to lead. You can use the time machine as the place to write down you visions.

Get inspired

I heard someone say ‘when the student is ready the teacher appears’. Maybe so…but why wait! Identify some senior people both inside and outside of your company who you admire and ask if they’d be interested in giving you some of their time to share their wisdom. You’ll be surprised how many execs want to share their experience. Don’t be afraid of asking, what’s the worst that can happen? If they say ‘no’ you’ll be no worse off, but if you don’t ask you’ll definitely be in the same situation.

Don’t wait for the next training course. Actively seek out opportunities to widen your network, to connect with people who might think differently and to hear about new innovations. Attend exhibitions & conferences, watch a Ted talk twice a week, read books written by inspirational people (and then drop them an email telling them what you thought about it). At the end of each day jot down in your journal the things you learned today.

Get uncomfortable

If you’re not scared, excited, energized or inspired then it’s probably time to do something different. So make a change, take action to own your future. Choose to make it full of excitement and possibilities. Commit to being the ‘be the best you can be’ in all you do. Everyone has the potential to be exceptional. You are an untapped font of capability and if you open your eyes to the opportunity you will create and do extraordinary things. These are all small things, they don’t take a lot of time or effort but they might just change the course of your life. So just take responsibility for your future and give them a go. What have you got to lose?

Lastly I’ll end with a quote. It’s quite brilliant and totally self explanatory.

‘’Life’s about juggling balls. Some are made of rubber such as your career. Some are made of glass such as your family, friends and health. If you have to drop one – make sure it’s the one that bounces’’
